Hard-earned: the blu26 Cup Bavaria races back to Switzerland

After the blu26 Swiss Championship in Zug in light wind conditions, the blu26 Cup Bavaria last weekend pushed the teams to high performances!

Wonderful spring weather and promising wind conditions welcomed the crews and their fans at Tegernsee, anticipating an exciting regatta weekend.
Team Hazel around skipper Michael Klötzli left the fleet behind and won the blu26 Cup Bavaria, in front of the title holder Team sailingcenter (place 5). Team Hazel brings the cup back to Switzerland - but this is only the beginning of the season.

Tegernsee is embedded in a natural reserve in the Bavarian Alps and offers perfect thermic winds and best sailing conditions. Ten crews in total from Switzerland, Austria and Germany traveled to Tegernsee to participate at the blu26 Cup Bavaria. The teams accomplished seven thrilling runs overall across the two racing days.

On day one, the first five runs challenged the teams with winds of about 4 bf. Best sailing conditions underneath a beautiful spring sun. The racing committee, led by Wolfgang Kordes, worked efficiently, and launched the race with scheme ‘Z’ as ‘Zufahren’. As this scheme isn't approved by World Sailing yet, the first run ended up as helpful warm-up. The teams were fortunate with best thermic winds and accomplished four great, valid runs. Protests were almost all managed in arbitration thereafter.

On day two more moderate conditions allowed the teams to accomplish three runs. “Especially the Swiss crews knew how to handle these conditions best”, says Stephan Eder, managing director of sailingcenter, the local sailing school. Team Hazel around skipper Michael Klötzli kept the upper hand and won the blu26 Cub Bayern, ahead of Team Voodoo Child second, tightly followed by Team Giachen Duos on third place.

All the crews were thrilled by the great wind condition at Tegernsee; and of course, enjoyed the Bavarian hospitality and socializing on shore. On Thursday evening, all participants were invited for dinner at the Tegernsee ‘Bräustüberl’ – in mindst of the Dirndl and leather pants community everyone raised their glasses to the upcoming regatta. On Friday evening, everyone enjoyed the Yacht Club Bad Wiessee. The vegan starter at the club confirmes that these sort of trends made its imprints in Bavaria as well.

Stephan Eder and Peter Kathan, president of the YC Bad Wiessee, have organized a perfect event. The blu26 class expresses its appreciation and thanks Yacht Club Bad Wiessee, sailingcenter, and all helpers on site for the fantastic organization of the sailing cup.
