Team Blutwo won Blu26 Cup Zug 21/22 Mai 2016

After the regatta training on Lake Garda and the Blu26 Race in Montenegro, the Bluboats Cup 2016 was launched in Zug last weekend. Already on Friday afternoon the first boats were put in the water and the team made themselves ready for the first race of the Blu26 series.

Saturday started quite slowly: The wind conditions allowed the teams to get used to the boat again in very light winds. 10 teams from Switzerland and one team from Germany fought in an epic race (duration: 62 ') to get the best spots and free wind. The local team knew how to use the home advantage: BluStar took the ‘Mountain Price’ and Blutwo won the race!

The tricky conditions in the afternoon was replaced in the evening by a brilliant dinner. Thekla Cerletti and her kitchen staff cooked a wonderful 3-course meal for numerous blu26 sailors and friends - thank you!

The Sunday was almost identical as the first day. At lunchtime the wind picked up so it was used by the race committee as soon as possible to start. This run, however, had to be cancelled after the first leg cause of no wind at all. As a result, the race committee was looking for wind around the whole lake and some sailors took a short dive in the lake to cool down in the summer temperatures.

Shortly before 3 o'clock the wind picked up suddenly and a super southerly wind builded with up to 12 knots. The wait was worth it: It was a really close racing on the up- and downwind course. Specifically, the Team Sailingcenter from Tegernsee made ‘Bella Figura’ with top speeds on the downwind courses. First came Team VoodooChild before Hazel followed by Giachen Duas, Blutwo, Sailingcenter and the other 6 teams.

After 2 races, there were three teams on the podium with 5 points - thanks to the race win on Saturday, the Blu26 Cup Zug championship went to local team Blutwo/YCZ with Silvan Bohren equally with Team Hazel/ZYC and Giachen Duas/SCSTM.

Thank you to the Yacht Club Zug and the race committee around Philipp Koch, who have made a tremendous commitment, which was rewarded with a great run at the end of this first championship of the Bluboats Cup 2016.
