Launch of the blu26 championship on lake Zug

The blu26 class opens the sailing season in Zug, with a new ranking and qualification system. At this first event of the season 2017 the best teams from Switzerland and Germany fought for a top ranking.

Lake Zug holds surprises! Friday yet wet and cold, the sailing weekend presented clear blue skies in front of a snow-covered, stunning mountain scenery. Eleven teams, seven runs and a great atmosphere accompanied this thrilling first event of the season.

«The positions were hard contested», reports Michael of team Hazel. «We certainly benefitted from the Garda Lake training and got into the race well prepared», so Michael. Said and done! Hazel improved along the runs and in the end won the first regatta weekend, closely followed by ‘wyuna’ with home advantage and ‘Giachen Ün’ from the Engadin.

The race committee led by Beat Stocker, did a great job in setting the courses, as the winds were not constant at all times. As always, the racing rules were challenged and the crews sailed fair, but to the limit. The jury, directed by jury president Luc Monnin, analyzed and decided over protests after each racing day. The blu26 class thanks Yacht Club Zug for the perfect organization and heartily hosting of the event.

Results

What makes the blu26 class so special is the competitiveness on water and matey collegiality on shore. As of this year, a further measure enriches the attractiveness of the class. The ranking and qualification system is as of now based on teams, rather than boats. This allows crews to participate in the races, that do not have an own boat.
